From Silicon Alley to Palermo Valley: Outsourcing to Argentina

In a country famous for it’s steak, gauchos, tango, soccer religion and natural beauty, the latest trend has been tech. Hundreds of web and mobile development companies have started in Buenos Aires over the last decade, and successfully so. Now, in 2010, big companies like Google, IBM and Microsoft have built bases  in the city often called the Paris of the South. And for good reason, as this is one of the fastest growing internet markets in South America.

While outsourcing web development is traditionally associated with India, companies have learned to appreciate the slightly more expensive but far more effective Latin American alternative. As opposed to India and other Asian countries, Argentina has the advantage of being in same timezone, having a strong design culture, and supporting a creative, educated and entrepreneurial workforce that dares to be innovative and challenge authority. Additionally, there are no taxes on exporting design and development services. Enough said, I would say.

And now the biggest entrepreneurs meetup group of Buenos Aires, Palermo Valley, has landed in New York City. Just last week a group of 25 gathered at the Argentine Consulate in midtown Manhattan to discuss the recent entrepreneurial trends in Argentina. As a result, I have decided to organize a networking oriented trip down south in November (9th – 21st). For more information on these meetups and the trip to Buenos Aires please visit Palermo Valley New York.
